Centenary Stage Company honors the art of contemporary dance with the XY Dance Project on Saturday, March 18 at 8pm in the Sitnik Theater of the Lackland Performing Arts Center.
Under the artistic director of Nijawwon Matthews (photo), the mission of the XY Dance Project is to change lives by generating clear and deliberate connections between artists and audiences. XY Dance Project crafts thought provoking work that allows the audience to question and think about their own view on the human experience through the lens of others. They are committed to presenting works that reflect on current social issues through a unique movement style that blends contemporary dance, the spiritual rhythms of African dance, the grace and peace of Tai Chi and the heart of street dance. Their vision is creating an inviting environment that will show versatility in each dancer by breaking gender stereotypes through performances and by fusing male and female qualities artistically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
