Raves for ‘The Learned Ladies’ at CSC

Ladies - cast SMALL

Audiences and critics alike are raving over Centenary Stage Company’s The Learned Ladies which continues its run in the Lackland Performing Arts Center now through October 22.  Remaining performances are Thursday, October 12 and 19 at 7:30PM; Friday, October 13 and 20 at 8PM; Saturday, October 14 and 21 at 8PM; Sunday, October 15 and 22 at 2pm and Wednesday, October 18 at 2PM.

Written by Moliere and brilliantly adapted by playwright Freyda Thomas this true screwball comedy is set in the 1930s.  “This adaptation of 'The Learned Ladies' was a masterful delight and definitely worth seeing… The intriguing set will amaze you as it is an intrinsic part of the production.  The costumes are a visual delight and add much to the character of the play.” (Janice Griffin)

Featuring a zany web of love stories, farcical romps and a battle of the sexes, Thomas keeps the action true to Moliere’s original while providing a smorgasbord of modern treats for contemporary audiences.  There is comic mayhem in Chrysale’s household as the women of the house rabidly pursue the new intellectual movement of the era.  Add a meek husband, a pretentious poet, a loony sister a couple of sassy servants completes what some have called “a giddy evening of theatre!” “The production has it all: A marvelously, elegant, lush set; amusing and unique staging/choreography; attractive period costumes (1930s); and (the norm for Wallnau productions)…a superior, first-rate cast including several Broadway vets.” (Rick Busciglio)
