Auditions: The Growing Stage's Babes in Toyland

The Growing Stage, The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey, located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, New Jersey will be holding auditions for its production of Babes in Toyland on October 17th and 18th at 7:00 PM.  Monday, October 17th will be for young people 10 to 17, and Tuesday, October 18th will be for young people 18 and older as well as adults.

All auditioning should have a song prepared with printed accompaniment that should be no longer than sixteen measures, be expected to learn a dance piece led by the choreographer and some may be asked to read from the script.  The production is under the direction of Stephen L. Fredericks, the Growing Stage’s Executive Director.
Something is amiss in the Land of Make Believe.  Barnaby is threatening Mother Goose with eviction unless her daughter, Bo Peep, marries him.  One of the Three Little Pigs is missing and on top of that, even Christmas is in doubt!  Who could possibly save the day?  Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum?  No, really, who could possible save the day?  Our original TGS adaptation is based loosely on the Victor Herbert operetta and the Laurel & Hardy classic film.

Growing Stage - The Children’s Theater of New Jersey’s production of Babes in Toyland runs from November 25 through December 18, with performances on Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. The Growing Stage is a professional member of the Association of Actor’s Equity. There will be five roles available for AEA artists, a one AEA/ASM while other roles will be filled by community artists, making a cast of approximately twenty-five.

Rehearsal schedules are generally two or three evenings during the week, and a weekend afternoon.  All cast members are expected for all performances, with no exception since the company does not cast understudies.
