News from Newton…Long before Jules Verne achieved international acclaim for TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA and AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS, he wrote FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON. Tri-State Actors Theater will present playwright James Rana’s adaptation of FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON as a staged reading on Saturday, October 26, at the Performing Arts Center, SCCC, Newton. Curtain time is 7:30 pm.

After the American Civil War, a group of men set out to construct a ship to provide them passage to the moon. Originally published in French, FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON prophetically follows America's longing to reach the Moon. Jules Verne treats the topic of moon travel with surprisingly accurate modern details and calculations years before his time, including the site for the launch in “Tampa Town, Florida,” very close to the future Kennedy Space Center.

A delightfully wacky evening of theater for fun-loving fans of sci-fi, Jules Verne, and madcap flights to the moon, playwright Rana’s adaptation presents Verne’s novel with a cast of four actors playing multiple roles. Actors Bradley Mott, Sam Kitchen, Timur Kocak and Mark Edward Lang will perform the staged reading with script in hand. Director Paul Meacham says that “Rana’s play moves the story along with humor. Our reading will use costumes, props and slide projections to fill the stage of the PAC.” Coming dressed as your favorite alien or other Halloween costume character optional!

James Rana is currently represented on stage with his adaptation of Washington Irving's THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW at the Ocean Professional Theatre in Manahawkin, NJ and the Stars Theatre and Arts Center in North Carolina. This summer, SLEEPY HOLLOW received its world premiere at the East Lynne Theater in Cape May. He is currently adapting ZORRO for the East Lynne Theater. Rana is the co-artistic director of the Actors Shakespeare Company in residence at St. Peter's University in Jersey City and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Tickets for FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON are $15, $13 for Seniors and Students. Tickets can be purchased at the door that evening or online at and click on Box Office. For more information, call 973 383-0510 or visit Tri-State Actors Theater, Sussex County's only professional theater, on the web at
