News from Dreamcatcher-Improv for Business with Laura Ekstrand at Mondo

So often in our professional lives we are called upon to respond spontaneously under unfamiliar circumstances. Presenting and promoting ourselves well when we don't know exactly what the other person's needs and interests are can be challenging.

How can we turn these tricky situations into opportunities for us to shine and to express our passion?

Instructor Laura Ekstrand, Artistic Director of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, will lead the group in exercises and games designed to improve our ability to listen, read body language, and truly collaborate. The workshop promises to be an enjoyable, unique way to unlock our individuality and to connect with more immediacy and openness.

About the instructor: Laura Ekstrand is the founder of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, a 20-year-old professional ensemble in residence at the Oakes Center in Summit. As an actor, she has appeared onstage in New Jersey at Dreamcatcher, Bickford Theatre, Passage Theatre, Luna Stage, and is a member of the improv comedy group Multiple Personality Disorder. In NY she has worked at Naked Angels, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and New Georges, among others. Laura has been featured in such films as Split Ends, High Art and I Shot Andy Warhol, and on TV on Hack, Sex And The City, Law & Order, and The Guiding Light. She is also a director and playwright as well as a private monologue coach; Laura holds a B.A. from Yale University and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. She is a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA and the Dramatists Guild.

Ever wanted to try improv comedy but never got around to it? Dive into improv with our four-week improv class. All classes are taught by professional improv master Lulu French. Lulu is a long-time member of Dreamcatcher's popular improv troupe, Multiple Personality Disorder. You'll learn how to think on your feet by freeing your mind, body and imagination through group exercises and games in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
This 4-week class delves deep into the craft of improv with more complex games as the weeks progress. This class is great for prior students of our one-day class (although that is not a requirement), and also for actors who want to add another dimension to their skills. Improv is a valuable skill for auditions and job interviews, too! Read more.

Space In-Between: One-acts by French Female Playwrights

Space in Between, directed by Elaine Molinaro, offers an intimate evening of theater for four actors, two women and two men, staged in the round to embody the mind spaces created by French female playwrights and new

novel writers Marguerite Duras and Nathalie Sarraute. Their one-act plays "Savannah Bay" and "Over Nothing At All" capture the spaces in between the walls of our minds, in between two actors on stage, in between people of different cultures and languages and the space in between male and female worlds.

Produced by Culture Connection Theater and opening January 8th at Luna Stage's Studio Theatre in West Orange, NJ.
