Straight from the Bickford see 'The Old Schnozolla'- the Jimmy Durante Tribute

Grover Kemble, Regan Ryzuk and Tim Metz will be paying tribute to 'The Old Schnozolla' once again! Join this trio of veteran entertainers and take a trip down memory lane with some of Jimmy Durante's most memorable songs and comedy routines.

Grover Kemble wants to get into the act.

The “act, in this case, is impersonating a man that he considers one of the great all-around entertainers of the 20th century: Jimmy Durante, the bulbous-nosed performer known as “The Great Schnozzola.”

“He was one-of-a-kind,” says Kemble of Durante, who died in 1980 at age 86. “He came up in speakeasies and vaudeville, and then he went on to Broadway and Hollywood. He did radio and TV. He did everything.”

Kemble channels the entertainer on stage in “A Tribute to Durante.” He will perform the one-man show this Friday, Oct. 31, at the Minstrel in Morristown.

Backed by pianist Regan Ryzuk and bassist Tim Metz, Kemble will sing some of Durante’s best-known songs, such as “Inka Dinka Doo” and “Young at Heart.” Between numbers, he will reminisce about Durante’s life and joke with the audience.

Throughout, Kemble mimics Durante’s gravelly voice, his Noo Yawk accent, and his distinctive mangling of the English language. He has down pat such Durante-isms as “Everybody wants ta get inta the act!” writes Bill Nutt of the Daily Record.

This show is sure to put a smile on your face, a song in your heart and get the toes tapping. They start at 7 pm Saturday, October 24 so don't be late.

Tickets are $20 and reservations can be made at 973-586-4886.
