Becket is the story of the tragic relationship between King Henry II of England and the introspective intellectual, Thomas Becket, who had been his dearest friend, but became his implacable enemy when intrigue raised him to the hierarchy of the church. The play won 4 Tony Awards in 1960, including Best Play and is often listed as one of the all-time top 100 plays. In 1964 the play was made into a successful film, starring Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.
