Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) presents ‘Magnificent You’

Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) presents Magnificent You at Merseles Studios in Jersey City November 3rd and 4th, an original, multimedia piece created specifically by DRIGGproductions for the Vanity series.

Combining choreography with cinema, Magnificent You explores the anxiety of self, particularly the spaces between our public and private selves in this era of social media and celebrity culture.

“All we have in this life is our self,” said Khadija Ahmaddiya, co-founder/co-director of DRIGGproductions. “If we can reconcile that angst of facing the self and live objectively, then we can begin moving forward.”

Magnificent You seamlessly interweaves live dance and movement with cutting-edge, original film into a unique and compelling, full-length production. DRIGGproductions is one of a handful of dance and theater companies participating in the JCTC Dance & Choreography Residency, where new and emerging artists are given rehearsal space, consultation and professional feedback to develop work that achieves artistic excellence.

“DRIGGproductions is excited to continue our partnership with JCTC through their residency program, which has allowed us the opportunity to create site-specific work and has been home to our dancers for two seasons now,” said Ahmaddiya.

Magnificent You, presented by JCTC, runs Thursday November 3 & Friday November 4 at Merseles Studios, 339 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, N.J. 07302. Door open 6:30PM; Performance at 7:00PM. Tickets: $18 online, $20 at the door - For tickets visit http://www.jctcenter.org/events
Audience Talk-Back follows both performances of Magnificent You

JCTC presents thematic series using multiple forms of art – theater, film, dance, multimedia performances, readings and visual arts – to explore a topic global in scope and relevant to the community.

Vanity, which explores the current “selfie” culture, began September 16th with the Art Show opening at Merseles Studios Gallery and concludes November 11th with The Box, a performance showcase.

Magnificent You was created specifically for the Vanity series by DRIGGproductions. Previously, the company created (IN)ward for JCTC’s Identity series last spring and will produce separate works for Borderless and Disruptions, the back-to-back thematic series that conclude JCTC’s 2016/2017 Season.

“DRIGGproductions is a talented company of very thoughtful artists, who use multimedia and dance in very provocative ways,” said Olga Levina, Artistic Director, JCTC. “I Love the way they question the world around us, and how responsive they are to the questions we at JCTC raise through our series. It is very satisfying to see them grow and create thought-provoking work.”

Magnificent You was directed by Khadija Ahmaddiya and Mark Casert; Dancers: Maurice Dowell, Amber Golden, Robert Lewis, Myssi Robinson; Resident Photographer & Videographer: Quilonga Ali.
