ICWP needs funding to keep the 50/50 Applause Awards alive

Did you know most theater seasons include only 18% of plays written by women playwrights, approximately one play by a woman writer for every four plays by a man?

In the 2011-2012 season, the 50/50 Applause Award was created to encourage theatres to produce works by female and male playwrights in equal measure. Five US theatres were the first to receive the 50/50 Applause Award.

maxresdefaultIn 2016, for the fifth anniversary, a record-breaking 107 recipients were honored with the 50/50 Applause Award. The awards have grown to include ten countries on five continents including the UK, Italy, Kenya, Singapore, and Switzerland.

Among ten Australian theatres, 39% of original and adapted works were written by women (The National Voice 2016, Australian Writers Guild). "Gender in Theatre" the UK’s Purple Seven study of 2012-2015 seasons reported 28% of playwrights were female.
The ICWP 50/50 Applause Award is the only international award recognizing theater organizations that practice gender parity.
We need $8,000 to continue our mission of supporting women playwrights so that their work can be counted equal to the work of male playwrights throughout the world.
