The Chester Historical Society and Library celebrates Chester Theater's 50th

The Chester Historical Society and the Chester Library will host: The Incredible Journey of the Black River Playhouse Celebrating 50 Years of the Chester Theatre Group in Residence. The presentation by Edward Ng of the Chester Historical Society will be held at the Chester Library on Sunday March 11th, at 2pm. The event is free to the public and complimentary refreshments will be served.

The Black River Playhouse is one of the most iconic buildings in Chester. It is certainly the most mysterious, windowless building in the historic village. The building has had an incredible 164 year journey, physically and functionally. With trials, tribulations, trauma, finally ending in triumph, this is the story of how a bankrupt Bedminster Baptist church became the Black River Playhouse, home to the Chester Theatre Group for the last 50 years.

In addition, for the month of March, the Chester Historical Society and the Chester Theatre Group will have an exhibit at the Library presenting a selection of images from 50 years of some of the Theater's most loved plays. The Chester Library is located at 250 West Main Street in Chester, New Jersey.
