Terrence McNally’s It’s Only A Play is a cleverly set play within a
play. At the opening night party for the Broadway play The Golden Egg,
the producer, playwright, and the lead actor, as well as an entourage
of characters, anxiously await the late-night reviews of the
performance. With not much else to do to pass the time, everyone
exchanges juicy gossip, name-drops celebrities who attended the
performance, and chat about the theatre. When The Golden Egg receives
bad reviews, the party refuses to be discouraged and begin planning
for their next “sure to be a hit!”  The real New York Times called it
“hilariously, sidesplittingly funny….These are among the funniest
lines to roll off a stage in years….IT’S ONLY A PLAY deserves a rave.”
It’s Only A Play features Anthony Ventola of Oradell (as Peter
Austin), John Kiely of Allendale (as James Wicker), Janet Gaynor-
Matonti of River Edge (as Virginia Noyes), Jeanmarie Garver-Gaydos of
River Edge (as Julia Budder), Michael Del Valle of New Milford (as
Frank Finger), Dan Loverro of Parsippany (as Gus P. Head) and Larry Shagawat of Clifton (as Ira Drew).
