Audition: “The Divine Sister” at Nutley Little Theatre

Grab your rosaries, it's audition time for THE DIVINIE SISTER by Charles Busch! Author of such hits as Psycho Beach Party and The Tale of The Allergist's Wife. Directed by George Seylaz.

Auditions are Sunday, November 4th at 7:30pm and Monday November 5th at 7:30, with callbacks scheduled for Wednesday, November 7th at 7:30 at the Nutley Little Theatre located at 47 Erie Place, Nutley NJ
Performance Dates are February 8,9,10 and 15,16, 17 and 21, 22, 23.
We are looking for actors not afraid to make BIG BOLD choices to take the audience through this outrageous homage to some our favorite Hollywood films featuring nuns, such as The Bells of St. Mary's, The Sound of Music and The Trouble with Angels.

It’s swinging 1960s in Pittsburgh. The Divine Sister tells the story of St. Veronica's indomitable Mother Superior who is determined to build a new school for her convent. Along the way, she has to deal with a young postulant who is experiencing “visions”, sexual hysteria among her nuns, a sensitive schoolboy in need of mentoring, and a mysterious nun visiting from the Mother House in Berlin.
Please note - true to the style of the playwright we are seeking a MALE to play the role of Mother Superior.

The style of the piece is the golden age of Hollywood with touches of melodrama. So make BIG, BOLD choices when auditioning! Be Earnest, Be Intense, Be Broad but be truthful! Going over the top, chewing the scenery, using heightened emotion are not only welcomed but encouraged here, so long as it comes from a truthful place!
The cast is made up of 2 men / 4 women - two of the actors will double as another character - see breakdown. *Reminder we are looking for a MALE to play the Mother Superior.

Mrs. Levinson / Timothy (double role) (40’s-60’s): A devout atheist and outrageously wealthy, patrician sort of woman. Classy but strong willed. / A precious and vivacious, effeminate male student at St. Veronica's (two scenes)
