Center Players Dessert Theater to present “The Emperor’s New Duds”


Center Players Dessert Theater will present a family-friendly production of “The Emperor’s New Duds” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St, in downtown Freehold, NJ from December 7 – 16th. A musical adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s the “Emperor’s New Clothes,” the play was written by Bernice Garfield-Szita, who co-directed the production with Enid Bush.

This charming modern take of the classic fairy tale is set in the land of Felicity which is blessed by people from all over the globe. Everyone is happy except for their Emperor, who can’t seem to get enough jewels and expensive attire. Some shifty weavers appear and lessons unfold. Leading a local cast of 18 ranging in age from 9-82 is Freehold Committeewoman Barbara J. McMorrow, in the role of Antigua.

Performance dates are Friday, Dec. 7th at 8pm, Saturday, Dec. 8th at 2pm and 5:30pm, Sunday, December 9th at 2pm, Saturday, December 15th at 2pm and 5:30pm and Sunday, December 16th at 3pm. Tickets are priced at $12 (children) $22 (adults) and are available online at or by calling 732-462-9093. Season ticket subscriptions are also available by calling the box office by Dec. 16th.

Celebrating its 18th season at Center Playhouse, Center Players is a respected, award-winning 501(c)3 organization, presenting high quality, engaging productions featuring local talent in downtown Freehold.
