Auditions: Center Players Dessert Theater for “Real Women Have Curves”

Center Players Dessert Theater will hold auditions for “Real Women Have Curves” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St, in downtown Freehold, NJ on Sunday, May 26 from 7-9pm and Tuesday, May 28th from 7-9pm.

Written by Josephina Lopez, and directed by Bernice Garfield-Szita, the play is scheduled to be performed four weekends from July 26 through Aug 18th, 2019.

Set in a tiny sewing factory in East L.A., this is a poignantly funny story of five full-figured Latina women who are racing to meet nearly impossible production deadlines in order to keep their tiny factory from going under. And while they work, hiding from the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service), they talk... about their husbands and lovers, their children, their dreams for the future. The story is told from the point of view of Ana, the youngest among them. Just graduated from high school, Ana dreams of getting out of the barrio and going off to college and becoming a famous writer.

Five females are needed, ranging in age from 18 through 60s who are Latino or can play Latino characters and are comfortable speaking some lines in Spanish. Complete details and a list of characters can be found at Those auditioning should bring a headshot and resume if possible; sides from the play will be provided. Non-union, no pay.

Celebrating its 18th season at Center Playhouse, Center Players is a respected, award-winning 501(c) 3 organization, presenting high quality, engaging productions featuring local talent in downtown Freehold. In addition to their signature plays, the group also sponsors free play reading events and offers dinner and theater packages with several local restaurants.
